It’s not so much a damned moral or ethical crusade as it is a need for the promotion of healthy lifestyles. No matter Media like the slide show above tries to normalize smoking with photos that make it appear glamorous, but there’s no need for that. Enough people smoke as it is. It’s not something that should be encouraged, but that is exactly what is happening. If people want to smoke, fine. But there’s definitely something wrong when groups like the COCS (the Coalition of On Campus Smokers) come about and assert off-the-wall claims. Smokers should be the minority. If they want to smoke, they should have to face the obstacles that come with the addiction. Lets give people an incentive to NOT smoke!

“Cool,” “rebellious” and “goes with the lifestyle” are far dumber reasons to smoke than “tobacco gets me high,” and “I’m addicted.” Conscientious smokers will remove themselves from high-traffic areas, but you might be surprised how hard those are to find on campus–especially while running between classes.

I also can’t help but think that reasonable adults can deal with combustion without making it a damned moral or ethical crusade.

I agree that people should be allowed to smoke outside on public property. That is their right. But, what about non-smokers’ right to walk around without having to breathe in smoke? So many college students smoke because “it’s cool”
or rebellious or goes with the lifestyle. It’s at a point where so many people smoke that it’s outside all of the building entryways. People don’t obey the proximity rule and always smoke directly outside doorways.

Smokin’ it up with the OC and half of the ASUO Senate – I love it! Great photos Ivar!
