On Tuesday February 17th civil rights activist and Baptist minister Reverend Jesse Jackson’s powerful voice filled the EMU ballroom as he addressed a large crowd of students and Eugene residents. His words on leadership, social justice, and voting power inspired the crowd, causing them to cheer in realization of the power that they all hold, not only as individuals, but as a group. The speech left everyone with a feeling of empowerment and that we, as a community, can make all of our dreams a reality.
“Dream the world which you want to live,” he said. “Let nothing break your spirit. We live in a diverse world. Everybody matters, everybody is somebody.” – Reverend Jesse Jackson (02-16-10)
