Microsoft Vulnerability Research (MSVR) has found a flaw in Google Chrome, Google’s web browsing software, through Google’s Chrome Fame plug-in for Internet Explorer users (officially described as “an early-stage open source plug-in that seamlessly brings Google Chrome’s open web technologies and speedy JavaScript engine to Internet Explorer). Frame also claims to include the HTML5 <canvas> tag, as well as improved performance with Javascript applications. Microsoft warned that the “attack surface” would increase because of this and make I.E. users less secure. The vulnerability essentially allows for the bypassing of the cross-origin protections. Google has already released a patch that fixes this vulnerability as well as a few other bugs.

It begs the question: Should Google and Microsoft be creating software infusions of one another’s work? The two industry-juggernauts are integral at this stage and their usage is beyond widespread, it’s a societal norm. Security vulnerabilities that they engender within one another would have the most dire of consequences. What do you think?

The Ducks hold an 18-point lead at halftime, but they have yet to click on offense. They are shooting only 38.7% from the field, and already have 12 turnovers. Free throws have been the difference, as the Ducks have hit 18 of 19 while Eastern Washington has attempted just five. Oregon has been aggressive on defense, forcing 15 turnovers with 8 steals, but their patented fast break offense is still a work in progress. Senior guard taylor Lilley has a game-high 13 points, while junior forward Nicole Canepa has a spark off the bench with 11 points and 5 rebounds.

More trouble for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, as Russia recalls all copies of the game from stores due to the way Russians are portrayed in the game. Specifically the mission “No Russian”, which features a Russian terrorist slaughtering civilians in an airport, has the censors all riled up. There is a patch to remove the level from both the regular PC and Steam versions of the game. The game is to be re-released on consoles after censors have approved it at an undetermined future date. Hellforge has more. Also, if you can read Cyrillic, you may want to check out GotPS3.ru’s outrage.

Two things:

A) It’s a very pro-american glorifying game and the designers most likely grew up during the Cold War. Russians make for an easy and generic “bad guy”, just watch Goldeneye. Also the Russian is not affiliated with the Russian government at all: He’s a rogue terrorist.

B) If you don’t want ‘Joe America’ to view you as a thought-controlling communist state, censoring the free speech of video games isn’t the way to go.

Ariana Williams: A middle blocker from Riverside, California (PrepVolleyball Senior Ace and Sophomore 79 member)

This looks like another great class for head coach Jim Moore, and should play a key role in keeping the team in contention for years to come. The group will look to fill in some of the spots left by graduating seniors Sonja Newcombe, Neticia Enesi, Nevena Djordjevic, Amanda Westrick, and Emilee Sisco

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, the armistice that would end the first World War was signed. Since 1919 we have honored our veterans on this day.

Those, filled with infinite courage, who were willing to commit the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of their beliefs, those who will always be the penultimate visions of altruism deserve the honor and respect of a grateful nation. Through their efforts the tides of darkness have been pushed back time and again and freedom still rings as the free peoples of planet earth remain duly so. Whatever you call it: Armistice Day, Remembrance Day, or Veterans Day; take a moment to think.

Take a moment to think about what it means to be a veteran, what it means to pass through military training programs and come out the other side as a warfighter. What it means to give up the comfortable life, to leave the people you care about most, and to suffer so that others do not have to. Think of what it to means to be the kind of human being that is forever willing to alter their life so that people like you need never alter theirs. Think of what it means to lose your friends to war, think of what it means to watch them fall and not be able to save them. Put yourself in the shoes of a warfighter.

Think also on what it means to be a pinnacle of discipline, leadership, and determination. Think of what it means to be reliable enough that people can count on you to do your job while bullets and shrapnel pierce the air around you.

Now carry all those scars back to civilian life and try to fit in and live amongst a population that is generally disaffected with everything you fought so hard for.
Regardless of what you think about the two current wars of the United States, please, honor those that fight. If you know a veteran: Give them a hug. If your parents or grandparents are veterans: Call them, just to admire their bravery. If you see a service member around campus: Thank them. Go to the Veterans Student Union: and just shake a hand, it doesn’t take much.

Perhaps even more importantly, take a moment to those who paid our price for freedom: There is a gate dedicated to those American souls from the University of Oregon who gave their lives fighting in the first World War, just south of MacArthur court by the driveway to the parking lot. The living no longer pass through it, but a plaque immortalizes the dead. Take a moment of silence at it, to reflect on what we have gained from their loss. In the middle of the Pioneer Cemetery on campus there is a monument to those who fought in the Civil War: Those who fought for individual liberties and to keep America whole when it seemed she would be rendt asunder. Scattered around campus are even more dedications, small things: plaques and statues that represent those who would give and ask nothing in return if it meant that American remained as free as she is. In your busy schedules, full of quizzes, improper diets, and last-minute assignments, as you scurry from building to building trying not to be late for class, take the time to stop and be thankful a moment for all those that sacrificed or were willing to sacrifice.

You probably know more Veterans than you think you do; not all of us talk about it. We are everywhere: We are friends, lovers, classmates, co-workers, siblings, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents. We are human just like you.

Thank you for your time,

Gregory Lewis Dewar, Former USAF, Veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The Ducks closed out Arizona State with a 25-20 third set win, sweeping the match and heading into this week on a high note. Sonja Newcombe and Heather Meyers played the starring roles on offense, as Newcombe hit .394 with 14 kills and Meyers hit .393 with 13 kills. Freshman libero Kellie Kawasaki had another strong performance, finishing with 18 digs, while senior setter Nevena Djordjevic also had a strong showing with 38 assists and 11 digs. Arizona State hit just .083 as a team, and often looked overmatched on the floor. The Ducks really needed this one after a poor showing against Arizona on Friday night, and were clearly relieved to have bounced back so nicely.

The team looks much more confident tonight, and their serving is much improved over last night. They have only one service error and two service aces.

The No. 14 Oregon womens volleyball team will face off with Arizona State at Mac Court in just a few minutes. The Ducks are coming off a disappointing 3-1 loss last night to Arizona. They never quite seemed to find a rhythm, and and generally looked more out of sinc than they have in a long time. Head coach Jim Moore was very frustrated with the way the team played last night, so look for them to come out tonight ready to play with a sense of urgency. Oregon really needs to find a rhythm soon, as the Pac-10 season has just one month remaining. The last time the Ducks played Arizona State they won rather easily, 3-0
