Russia says ‘No’ to Modern Warfare 2′s ‘No Russian’

More trouble for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, as Russia recalls all copies of the game from stores due to the way Russians are portrayed in the game.  Specifically the mission “No Russian”, which features a Russian terrorist slaughtering civilians in an airport, has the censors all riled up.  There is a patch to remove the level from both the regular PC and Steam versions of the game.  The game is to be re-released on consoles after censors have approved it at an undetermined future date.  Hellforge has more. Two things:

A)  It’s a very pro-american glorifying game and the designers most likely grew up during the Cold War.  Russians make for an easy and generic “bad guy”, just watch Goldeneye.  Also the Russian is not affiliated with the Russian government at all: He’s a rogue terrorist.

B)  If you don’t want ‘Joe America’ to view you as a thought-controlling communist state, censoring the free speech of video games isn’t the way to go.
