Blount finished at Oregon

Star Oregon running back LaGarrette Blount has been suspended from the team for the remainder of the season, head coach Chip Kelly announced this afternoon.

Blount, a senior, punched Boise State linebacker Byran Hout in the chin after the Ducks’ ugly 8-19 loss last night. The game was hyped up for weeks, and it was Oregon’s chance to avenge Boise’s victory at Autzen last year.

According to an athletic department press release, Blount will continue to reap the benefits of being an Oregon athlete, including scholarships and University’s services for student athletes.

A story on dailyemerald.com is forthcoming.

    Other guy started it….
he needs to be punished as well….
    I think Blount”s punishment was to severe….

I sit far, far away in Israel – and I am a grad of the UW; but I watched the event live on ESPN and I am totally appalled by the U of O decision. OK, Blount deserves some punishment, but does he deserve to have his life destroyed? And what about this jerk from Boise St who clearly taunted him? No punishment, except their coach will “sit with him” so that he understands what he did wrong? What kind of nonsense is that?
And where were the referees while the two teams were talking smack the enitre game?
This is an obvious case of the punishment not fitting the crime. Good luck to Mr. Blount.

  4. Bob says:

Blount should be expelled; Alumni should not make contributions to the University if Blount is not expelled.

You can take the kid out of the ghetto but not the ghetto out of the kid; Blount is a prime example.

LA Times says that Blount suspended by the U of O President without input from Kelly or Bellotti. Is this correct?
