In an article published Saturday, Dave Frohnmayer told the Statesman Journal he doesn’t regret losing the 1990 governor’s election. Not one bit. Not even a little.
I mean, come on: “For all of the mythology that may be built up around it, the governorship of Oregon is not a strong position constitutionally, compared with governorships in other states,” he said.
And for that reason, he expressed sympathy for Gov. Ted Kulongoski over dealing with the financial crisis. I can’t help but think back to Kulongoski’s speech at Frohnmayer’s going away event a couple of months ago, in which he said he had felt like he shadowed Frohnmayer’s career path. Perhaps it was just the tinnitus of cynicism, but I could have sworn I heard a note of muted triumphalism. My point being, these two have an interesting history together.
