Climate and Energy Action Advisory Team Plan Kick-Off Event

The City of Eugene’s Climate and Energy Action Advisory Team met today for the second time, a group of involved community members with a goal to

“to develop a community climate and energy action plan that aims to reduce total, current, community-wide, fossil fuel (oil, natural gas, coal) consumption by 50% by 2030. “

The main purpose of this meeting was to present and discuss a “Community Engagement Program” on climate and energy issues that is estimated to take place on September 26. This public, day-long program is aimed to work as a community brainstorm session, bouncing citizen’s ideas about how Eugene should handle climate control and energy usage in the future off one another.

The Co-Intelligence Institute, headed by Tom Atlee, presented the initial layout of the fall program, opening the floor to adjustments and responses to the schedule and overall structure. “The end product we hope to see from this program is a more self-aware and networked group of community members who are determined to influence our city’s energy outputs,” said Atlee at the meeting. The proposed program’s stated goals are to gather information and connections to assist the Advisory Team in their motives as well as to involve the community in addressing climate change and energy.

The Advisory Team plans to publicize the September kick-off event through neighborhood events, public advertising, as well as extended networking.
