Roper to transfer from UO football, tells eDuck

The Web site eDuck is reporting this morning that quarterback Justin Roper has been released from his scholarship and intends to transfer away from Oregon.

Roper won the 2007 Sun Bowl after injuries to Dennis Dixon, Ryan Leaf, Nate Costa and Cody Kempt forced him into duty and started the 2008 season against Washington before injuries gave Jeremiah Masoli the position, one he never let go of the rest of the season.

Roper finished the 2009 Spring Game in Eugene statistically better than Masoli (22 of 34 for 301 yards and 2 touchdowns), having played a half more than him, but seemed comfortable after the game and had a sense of confidence about him.

Now that’s changed, apparently.

The Web site received an e-mail from Roper’s father, Brad, saying, “He was released (Thursday).”

  1. Kelly says:

He just doesn’t want to have to go up against Boise State in Boise. LOL

  2. Interesting.

I’m anxiously awaiting our first real viewing of the 2009 offense. We’ve done better than we should have during some rebuilding time (post-Dixon/Stewart) and I’m hoping they come out swinging this season.
