Bottom 11, 2-2 – Karraker struck out swinging to lead off, Serna popped out to shallow right and Schmidt grounded out when the sprinkle turns into a real rainstorm…sorry, blog over, Ben will be twittering so find updates there.
Top 11, 2-2 – Another 1-2-3 inning for Gagnier. Here comes the rain.
Bottom 10, 2-2 – Antony Kreitz pinch-hit for Gavin and popped out to the left side of the infield. Tommasini singled to left and stole second. Raulinaitis got the free pass to first, then Eddy Rodriguez hit into a 6-4-3 double play to end the threat.
Top 10, 2-2 – Parra grounds out to Gavin at third. Long flied out to shallow left. Patrick Glen pinch-hit for Morton and struck out swinging for a 1-2-3 10th for Gagnier. I think that might prompt Horton to leave Gagnier in longer than the three innings he prescribed yesterday. We shall see.
Bottom 9, 2-2 – Doesn’t really feel like a “bottom of the ninth” situation to me with the suspension and all but here we go: Schmidt tapped a roller back to the pitcher for the first out. Hart popped up to Karcich in shallow left. Josh Hogan popped out to right and we go to extras.
Top 9, 2-2 – Wagner fell behind Gagnier 0-2, then worked the count full and fouled off several pitches before grounding out to Hogan at second. Fuerst hit a grounder up the middle that Serna gobbled up behind the bag at second and made the throw to first for out number two. Abraham grounded out to Serna at short, with Schmidt making a nice dig on Serna’s throw, which came in on a short hop to first.
Bottom 8, 2-2 – The Broncs keep junior righty Steve Kalush on the bump to start out. Raulinaitis led off, sending a 2-2 pitch back up the middle for a single. Rodriguez puts down the sac bunt to move him over, then Karraker walks on four straight. Serna came up with two on, one out, and hit into the 6-4-3 double play to end the threat.
Top 8, 2-2 – Karcich led off for the Broncos and grounded out to Serna at short, Klein goes down on strikes, swinging wildly at some high cheese from Gagnier, and Biancardi flied out to Tommasini in deep left center. Good play by Tommasini, who had to get back quickly and nab the hard liner over his shoulder – and for the first time this year, his HAT STAYED ON!!
Dylan Gavin is out at third base after John Adamson was pinch-run for in the bottom of the seventh yesterday and Josh Hogan is at second after Sokol pinch-hit for Pulfer.
So we’re back out here early today to see the completion of yesterday’s seven-inning, 2-2 stalemate between the Broncos and the Ducks, suspended at the end of the seventh because of darkness. Oregon coach George Horton has said they will go with sophomore righty closer Drew Gagnier to try and finish this one. He could go as many three innings, said Horton, if the game goes into extra innings.
The umpires have finally arrived, walking through the right field entrance at 11:59 – one minute before the official start time. They are meeting with the coaches at home plate and it looks like we’re ready to go. The sun is shining and though ominous clouds threaten all around it looks like a decent day for a ball game.
