Santa Clara @ Oregon 3/7/09 Game 2 thread

After a meeting between coaches and umpires at home plate, the game is postponed due to darkness and will be finished tomorrow at noon.

Bottom 7, 2-2 – Hart struck out, then Adamson drew a walk. Pitching change as junior righty Steve Kalush takes over for Rivers. Kenny Bartz came in to pinch-run for Adamson and stole second. Colby Sokol pinch-hit for Pulfer and struck out. Tommasini flied out to right field.  

Top 7, 2-1 Oregon – Fuerst led off with a single to left and Abraham bunted him over to second. Pitching change – Freshman righty Scott McGough in for Whitmore who went 6.1 innings, giving up one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out three. Parra grounded out to Adamson at third and Fuerst advanced to third with two down. Long doubled down the left field line, scoring Fuerst for the 2-2 tie. Morton flied out to Tommasini in left.

Bottom 6, 2-1 Oregon – Rodriguez flied out to center, Karraker tried to bunt for a hit but was thrown out 1-3. Serna drew a walk, then stole second on the first pitch to Schmidt, who flied out to center.

Top 6, 2-1 Oregon – Klein popped out to Pulfer in shallow right, then Biancardi ripped a single to right-center field. Wagner tapped a roller back to Whitmore for the 1-6-3 double play. 

Bottom 5, 2-1 Oregon – Schmidt led off with a single to center and Hart got hit by a pitch, then Adamson bunted them over to second and third with one out. Pulfer struck out swinging on three pitches, then Tommasini grounded out to second.

Top 5, 2-0 – Fuerst led off and grounded out to Serna, who had some trouble getting the ball out of his mitt but made a strong throw to first. Abraham singled to right, Parra walked and Long hit a single to center to score Abrham, 2-1 Oregon. Morton hit a grounder to Schmidt, who went to second for the out, then Karcich struck out.

Bottom 4, 2-0 – Rodriguez struck out swinging, Karraker struck out looking and Serna flied out to deep center.

Top 4, 2-0 – Karcich grounded out to Schmidt at first. Klein grounded out to Adamson at third. Biancardi singled to right, then Wagner struck out.

Bottom 3, 1-0 – Adamson led off by taking a 3-1 pitch over the short wall in right for a home run and a 2-0 Oregon lead. Pulfer grounded out to second, then Tommasini ripped one back up the middle for a single. Raulinaitis struck out and Tommasini was caught stealing.

Top 3, 1-0 – Abraham worked the count full then got hit on the elbow by a pitch, only to get picked off at first. Rivers then sent the first pitch he saw back up the middle for a single. Parra popped straight up, caught by catcher Rodriguez. Long (home run in first game) struck out.

Bottom 2, 1-0 – Serna flied out to deep right field, Schmidt grounded out to first and Hart grounded out to third.

Top 2, 1-0 – Klein slapped a single to center and advanced to second when Raulinaitis bobbled the ball. Biancardi popped out to Pulfer in shallow right. Wagner tapped a roller back to Whitmore and Fuerst flied out to center.

Bottom 1, 0-0 – Tommasini ripped the 1-1 pitch into center for a leadoff single, then stole second. Raulinaitis grounded out to first, advancing Tommasini to third with one out. Rodriguez flied out to right, scoring Tommasini for a 1-0 Duck lead. Karraker groundout to first.

Top 1, 0-0 – Parra flies out to Hart in foul territory and Long flies out to Serna in shallow center. Medica reaches on an errant throw from shortstop Serna to Schmidt at first that pulled him off the bag. Medica slid headfirst into first base and is still on the ground being tended to by SC trainers – he has left the game, replaced by pinch runner Chris Morton. Karcich flies out to Raulinaitis in center to end the top half of the inning.

Junior southpaw Ben Whitmore is on the bump for Oregon, he had 10 strikeouts in a loss to Fresno State last weekend.

Well, the rain has stopped so we’ll try this again….
