The Presidential Search Committee has announced the final candidate to replace Dave Frohnmayer is Richard Lariviere. He is currently the senior vice president and provost at the University of Kansas.
Lariviere got his bachelor’s in Religion History at the University of Iowa and later his Ph.D. in Asian Studies from the University of Pennsylvania (an Ivy League school). He then accepted a 3-year grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities translating ancient Indian texts. He then began teaching Sanskrit at the University of Texas from 1982 to 1986 when he became the Director for the Center for Asian Studies. He was the associate provost for international programs starting in 1995 and from 1999 to 2006 was the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Texas. From 2006 until the present he has been the provost at Kansas.
He is married (her name is Janis) and has a daughter (Anne Elizabeth). His wife donated $1500 to Hillary Clinton’s campaign in winter 2007.
