Fresno vs. Oregon Game 1: Second Inning 0-0

Start of the second, Fresno State’s third basemen Tom Mendonca up. First pitch foul ball barely foul down first base line.

Mendonca struck out but the ball came out, so he advanced to first base before being called out.

Detwiler up, tries to draw a hit ball on his left shoulder but isn’t successful. Anderson 2-1 count, gets him swinging on a strike. Close low pitch no good for the strike, then he walks Detwiler to first.

One out with Danny Grubb up. First pitch strike down the middle. Second pitch he bunts poorly that takes a one-hopper before Anderson fields it and throws him out. Detwiler advances to second.

Dusty Robinson, FSU’s righthanded first baseman, digs in, gets into a quick 0-2 count. Hits down into left field and Tommasini fields it cleanly. No runs in for FSU in the top of the second.

OREGON gets ready.

Catcher Eddy Rodriguez up to face Sprague.  2-1 count hits a hard hit to shortstop Muno who fields it backhanded and gets him at first just before his foot hits the bag. One out.

Jett Hart up. The rightfielder was the focus of our feature today by Kevin Hudson. Check it out on our web site. That speed that Hudson wrote about works out in his favor when he shoots a hit down the third baseline, then runs out the throw to first. Hart steals second, but batter interference on Darrell Hunter gets him out  and brings back Hart to first.

OK, Dylan Gavin up for the Ducks. He’s the third basemen for Oregon. Hart nearly gets thrown out at first base on a pickoff play.

Hart steals second again. You’re not getting him.

Two outs, man on second, Gavin with a 3-0 count.

3-2 count, Gavin watches a strike, then fouls one back, before striking out to end the inning, still 0-0.
