Here’s some more clarification about the story I wrote in today’s paper, courtesy of an e-mail from Hailey Sheldon forwarded to me by Sam Dotters-Katz:
Hello Senate,It has come to my attention that my stance during the OBETCredit discussion at Wednesday’s meeting was ill-informed. Unfortunately, I didn’t update my information before adding the agenda item. I have been told that General Council did rule that the funds can not be placed in Surplus. The Executive has a separate option for the location of these funds that will be outlined in a memo tomorrow morning. I would like the discussion to be added to Wednesday’s agenda – Senate and Exec are required to come to an agreement as to the final location of these funds before they can be transfered. By Wednesday I will have the exact wording of the General Council ruling, and we will have the executive memo.
The most egregious characteristic of this issue is the fact I misrepresented the Executive at Wednesday’s meeting. I apologize for this, and for misleading the Senate. It was COMPLETELY unintentional. Dialoging with the executive prior to Wednesday’s meeting would have preempted my mistake – I failed to do that. I humbly suggest that the entire Senate learn from my mistake. In order to work well together we need to talk to one another about each separate issue – each time we fail to do so we just create more work for ourselves, in my opinion.

See most of you at the DFC meeting tomorrow,Hailey
