No. 8 Oregon vs. No. 5 Washington: Set 1

The Ducks started out the first set of the much anticipated rematch between them and the Huskies this afternoon before a huge crowd at McArthur Court. Early, the Ducks jumped out to a 4-2 lead before the Huskies tied the match at 5-5 and even took the lead briefly. Then the Ducks went on a 5-1 run to go up 14-10.

But the Huskies stormed back and took the lead 22-18 off a 8-0 run that featured three blocks off of hits by senior All-American Gorana Maricic. The Serbian had success early in the set, getting three kills, but Washington changed up their scheme and keyed on her hits.

After a Jim Moore timeout, the Ducks mounted a rally of their own, scrapping back to within one at 23-22 before Husky coach Jim McLaughlin called a timeout. After the break, Washington got a kill from Jill Collymore, followed by a kill from Jessica Swarbrick to win the set 25-23.

Maricic ended with 5 kills for the Ducks, and junior Neticica Enesi added four kills and a block.
