Everyone knew South Medford High standout E.J. Singler had committed to Oregon to play basketball starting next year, but with the close of early signing day for college basketball today, Ernie Kent could make it official.
“We’ve watched E.J. for the last three years now, and have really seen him blossom and come into his own as a leader,” Kent said. “He is one of the top players in the state and certainly someone who has the character and background – in terms of coaching – to be an outstanding player at this level.”
Singler averaged 20.2 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game as a junior. He was a first team all-conference and second team all-state selection a year ago.
Singler is the younger brother of Kyle Singler, the star sophomore small forward at Duke University.
He will be the fifth Oregonian on the team when he joins next year’s squad. Ben Voogd (Florence), Garrett Sim and John Elorriaga (Portland) and Drew Wiley (Blue River/Springfield) are already on the team.
