OLCC preparing to ban happy hour advertising
The Oregon Liquor Control Commission voted to begin the process of banning Oregon restaurants from advertising their happy hour specials and deals. The staff recommended a ban on prices to prevent price wars that could lead to over-consumption, said Linda Ignowski, the agency’s regulatory director. The Commission and alcohol prevention groups have a history of disliking happy hours, due to their tendency to attend alcoholics. This issue has sparked the arrangement of public meetings in the Portland area. A formal public hearing will take place in February, and a final proposal for changing the happy hour rule will probably go back before the commission in March or April, Ignowski said.
