ASUO VP announces Senate, Con Court picks

ASUO Vice President Getachew Kassa announced one Senate appointment and two Constitution Court appointments Friday night.

Former Department FInance Committee Senator Hailey Sheldon was nominated to Senate Seat 8 on the Athletics and Contracts Finance Committee. Third year law student Casey Sanders and first year law student Andrew Washington were nominated for the Constitution Court.

Kassa took control of the hiring process without input from ASUO President Emma Kallaway due to a pending grievance the court will decide that seeks her removal from office.

Haley’s appointment to either Senate or the court was widely anticipated. She ran for re-election to her DFC seat in the spring on the Students First slate but was defeated by Oregon Action Team’s Demic Tipitino. Haley will replace Benjamin Dodds, another Students First candidate, who resigned after being elected because he is no longer a matriculated student.

Students FIrst presidential candidate Carina Miller will also be appointed to Senate. One Students First insider recently portrayed the appointments as an unprecedented post-election net gain of Senate seats for a slate that did not win the presidency and is not always in line with the executive.

Sanders and Washington appear to have no record in the ASUO. Kassa said he did not know either before interviewing them and was not introduced through any intermediary.

There are still two open Senate seats for the executive to fill. Kassa said one of the seats — representing graduate and law students — had two applicants, Washington, who was appointed to the court, and Lee Rice, who also applied for to be the executive’s graduate and law student advocate. After interviewing to be grad law advocate, Kassa said, Rice declined to interview for the Senate seat.

Senate Seat 14, representing social science students, was recently vacated and the executive is planning to advertise the position longer before filling it.

The Kallaway-Kassa administration has proven to be as inept and ineffective at fulfilling the duties of their office as any other crony politician EVER! I sincerely hope the Con Court will listen to reason and kick Kallaway out of office, leaving student government in the hands of an idiot (Get-A-Chew…how about “get a brain”).

If either of them read this I hope you know that I will do everything in my power to derail your administration. You better watch your backs. The ASUO Senate is no friend of yours!
