Ducks add point guard Armstead officially
Oregon has received a national letter of intent from Chipola College point guard Malcolm Armstead, a long-rumored signing even before former guard Kamyron Brown left the program on Saturday.
Armstead is the teammate of Oregon recruit Jeremy Jacob, a forward for the Indians of Marianna, Fla. Armstead averaged 6.8 points, 4.9 assists and 1.9 steals per game, [...]

Two Ducks get Pac-10 softball honors
Freshman pitcher Sam Skillingstad and junior center fielder Neena Bryant have earned All Pac-10 honors in a vote by conference coaches Monday.

Springfield, Ore., Mayor Sid Leiken has announced he will run for the U.S. House of Representatives from Oregon’s fourth district, which contains Eugene and Springfield. The seat he’s after is currently occupied by the popular Peter DeFazio, so it seems at first that he faces a difficult race.
However, analysts theorize that the move is calculated [...]
“The university made a decision in the interest of safety to really err on that side”
Inside Higher Ed has a thoughtful article up about the range of reactions to the H1N1 virus. The argument here is that the risk posed by swine flu is relatively low, but many colleges are closing down just to appear to be doing something.
Meanwhile, three cases of the virus have been confirmed in Oregon — [...]
