Inside Higher Ed has a thoughtful article up about the range of reactions to the H1N1 virus. The argument here is that the risk posed by swine flu is relatively low, but many colleges are closing down just to appear to be doing something.
Meanwhile, three cases of the virus have been confirmed in Oregon — two in Mutnomah and one in Polk County — while another 19 are considered probable, including five in Lane County. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s statistics indicate that the number of confirmed cases has risen to 286, with the largest numbers in New York and Texas.
