Fresno vs. Oregon Game 1: Ninth Inning, UO wins 1-0.

FSU up.

Mendonca  goes for the rare hat trick of three strikeouts. Fleckenstein is throwing well, getting a 2-1 count on Detwiler, who grounds down halfway the third base line, and Fleck fields it and throws him out easily. Two outs.

Grubo up, 1-1 count. Ball from Fleck, then a pop up to Darrell Hunter at third base, where he switched to.

OREGON up. OK, last inning rally time?

New pitcher in for FSU, Zack Bischoff as Serna digs in.

First pitch, weak roller to third. One out.

Karraker up. He’s a designated hitter; people are thinking walk-off homer here, although I think it’s because of the cold.

1-1 count on Karraker, as he takes a second strike looking. A weak roller to first, who tosses it to Bischoff for the out. Two outs.

Eddy Rodriguez gets the shot to deal Oregon out of this game. Takes a ball into the dirt. All the students are standing and Eddy takes a big cut that misses big. 2-1, ball high. Rodriguez pushes a hit through to centerfield, and the crowd is up.

RF Jett Hart gets the chance. Ball outside. Another ball, low. Strike. 2-1, just like Eddy’s count when he got his hit, and it’s a ball high. Looked like a curve that missed. The crowd wants something to happen…the cold sportswriters, too. 3-1 countand he gets a strike looking as they throw down to catch Eddy at first, but they don’t get him.

Hart delivers, with a single to right field. Men on first and third, 2 outs, and Darrell Hunter is up. He’s a local freshman from Springfield’s Thurston High, and was the first player to commit to this team. And then…they yank him. They’re putting in pinch hitter Andrew Schmidt to pinch hit.

Lefty gets into the box, one ball taken. Ball very high, 2-0. Called strike on the third pitch, as he gets to the box. He’s a switch hitter, not just a lefty I found out. Ball three outside. 3-1, pitcher has to make a pitch here or it’s bases loaded. Schmidt fouls it off to first base. HE DELIVERS. Walk-off single to right field for the 1-0 win.

Oregon wins.
