Fresno vs. Oregon Game 1: Eighth Inning
FSU up.
SS Danny Muno up and gets a first pitch strike, then fouls off a pitch after a ball go 1-2. Anderson still looking strong…although as I say that he allows Muno to stroke a hit down right field for a single. Man on first now, and the bullpen is warming up. Lefty Fleckenstein is warming up in the pen, along with possibly righty Geoff Nichols.
Jake Johnson digging in for FSU, 1 out after Hedstrom hit a short pop up to Anderson. 1-1 count, with a pickoff attempt on first. It’s getting cold here, and the sun has been missing for about four innings. More pickoffs. On a swing by Johnson, Rodriguez throws down to second to get Muno into a pickle, which he gets out on when Hunter throws to Pulfer for the tag out. Two outs, and the crowd is showing some kind of life again, although they’re just happy something is just happening. Rodriguez throws out Johnson at first after dropping the third strike .
OREGON up.
Sprague still pitching for FSU. Anderson ended the last inning with 119 pitches on the day, and that should be his last.
Colby Sokol up for his first at-bat, pinch hitting and will likely play outfield. He responds by ripping a blast to right field. Sokol on first. They’re playing ELO on the loudspeakers…this place wants a rally. Kenny Bartz comes in to pinch run for Sokol.
Danny Pulfer up, he’s got some crowd help. First baseman charges for the bunt and Pulfer hits it to second, who gets Bartz out on a force but can’t finish the double play.
Tommasini up with 1 out and another man on first. They’ve got 4 hits all day to FSU’s 6. First pitch comes and Tommasini flies out to left-centerfield. Two outs.
Raulanaitis up, and first pitch he takes for a ball as Pulfer steals second. Looks like a pitching change happening for FSU. They’re bringing in Floethe to relieve Sprague. Sprague gets a nice hand from the Oregon crowd after allowing all of 4 hits all day. We’ll take a timeout as he warms up.
Curtis Raulanaitis up against Floethe, takes a strike and two balls. Hits a dribbler foul down third base line. He swings well ahead of the third strike and gets thrown out at first when catcher drops the ball. Pitching change for UO, Ryan Fleckenstein in.
