Constitution Court
This story is best told by a series of emails. This one went from Derek Nix to the Constitution Court at around 5pm Tuesday.
Chief Justice and Justices of the Court,
It has come to the attention of the ASUO Student Senate that the ASUO Constitution Court is abusing their power in regards to various rullings.
-The LTD Resolution submitted during week 1 and has yet to be ruled upon.
-The grievance filed November 20th against Sen. Perley has yet to be ruled upon; it is now January 27th.
-The open hearing held by the ASUO Constitution Court was conveniently rescheduled and relocated shortly before the hearing. This hearing was to decide the changes to the ASUO Constitution which would reformat the ASUO Constitution Court, holding the Court more accountable.
-All Associate Justices and Chief Justice Bogar have received 4 stipends this year, indicating a stipend per month per Justice. It is a concern of the ASUO Student Senate that those recieving stipends are not fullfilling their duties of transparency and expediency.
-Rulings that have been voted upon have yet to be released.
-The Blackboard Resolution has been on the Court’s docket since the end of last school year.As per ASUO Constitution Sec.11.12, “Members of the Court may be removed from office by the President should the President and at least twelve members of the Student Senate vote, after a public hearing, and determine that the member is guilty of non fulfillment of duties.”
The Student Senate will consider this process if the court does not release opinions within a reasonable time period.
Thank you,
–
